Sun Wanders Down The SOA Path

By David Utter

Article Date: 2005-05-17

Sun Microsystems has made a new Service Oriented Architecture practice available to bolster SOA solutions.

With service-oriented architecture (SOA), software defines how web services will support software users. A service can be created in any programming language, and architecture would require all the services to be written in the same language.

For Sun, that language would be Java. And the tech company wants to help Java developers build SOA-based solutions, ideally on Sun software products.

The pragmatic SOA path encourages sensible development practices: focus on business problems, bring legacy applications into the SOA, and ensure portability without locking a company in to any one vendor.
